Direct-to-video

From The Film Guide

Jump to: navigation, search

Direct-to-video refers to films which are not given a proper cinematic release, but are rather released directly to home video. In the context of Hollywood films, this is sometimes taken as a sign of little confidence in the film's likely success with a cinematic release.

Often, the direct-to-video format is used for sequel films (examples: Species III, I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer and multiple Disney films.)
