Talk:Zeitgeist

From The Film Guide

Zeitgeist has obvious fallacies. The most glaring is the claim that income tax does not appear in any documented law. However, the 16th amendment to the Constitution specifically establishes income tax.

(replying in-between Mike's lines) The constitution forbids taxes, except those granted permission by it. The 16th was designed to allow income tax. Allowing it is short of having it. And, the High Court has ruled that the 16th still does not allow the current income tax. (I base myself on Aeron Russo's freedom/fascism film) Xiutwel

Also, Alpha Centauri (the closest star beyond the Sun), is 277,000 times further away than the Sun. Because of this incredible distance, it and all other stars appear fixed in the sky during our comparitively small travels around the Sun. Consequently, Orion's belt is in the same relation to Sirius throughout any individual's lifetime.

I noticed that myself, and agree with you it must be a mistake. From non Zeitgeist related sources, I've heard that Sirius opposes the Sun in July, and rises together with it in December, or vice versa, I forget, which makes sense. I believe the filmmaker must have gotten this all mixed up. Xiutwel

When errors this overt occur, a reasonable person questions the credibility of the total work, and does his/her own skeptical research into the other claims being proported.

You are right, Mike, to never take anything for granted, especially when you see so many errors. But, when you do your research, you might still find that the Bible was a political invention of A.D. 325 or so; that 9-11 is probably not what it seemes, and that several former Federal tax agents are no longer paying up. I think most of Zeitgeist is on the mark. My major disagreement is with the claim that Jesus probably never existed. While possible, I find that extremely unlikely. Xiutwel 10:00, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Note: This wiki isn't the place for political discussion, or discussion about issues raised in films. Take it to another site, please. The talk page is reserved for talk about the construction, wording and content of the article to which it is attached, and that's it. - Nhprman 00:31, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

You are right, sorry. Xiutwel 07:57, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
